Film news: Biggest reveals from the official ‘Superman’ trailer
DC dropped their official trailer for Superman and there were certainly some notable, revealing moments hidden amongst the rubble.
Hope of the universe? Possibly, but it’s more complicated than that.
Film News Blitz’s Aidan Leo is here to break down all the important details centered around DC’s Superman.
The trailer’s biggest moments
The most glaring, standout moment of the trailer was that Superman seems to have found himself in the hot seat in the eyes of the law and the public.
Pitchforks are out for the Man of Steel, after seemingly putting a stop to a war, unaided.
Meaning, we likely have a Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice plot pending, as there certainly were casualties resulting from the particular incident.
Superman’s sovereignty to be able to save lives and assist wherever necessary is certainly confirmed by the trailer to be the main plot point the film will revolve around.

The only positive from that potentially catastrophic political dynamic is that we will get a Batman reveal sooner rather than later.
On another, brighter note, Clark and Lois’ relationship seems to be going off like a house on fire (in a good way).
Sparks seem to be flying as it relates to David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan’s onscreen chemistry.
Which is great news for DC comic book purists.
The emergence of Rick Flag Sr.
The father of the Suicide Squad’s Rick Flag, seems to be playing a more pivotal role in the story than we were led to believe.
With Flag Sr. confirmed to be the Secretary of Defense, his dynamic with Superman is bound to thicken the plot even more.
He appears to have taken the stance against Superman’s sovereignty, and wants to hold the Man of Tomorrow accountable for whatever actions occur in the film, but likely, for ominous agenda-based reasons.
The idea of optimism and upliftment
James Gunn’s Superman depiction continues to give the impression of a hopeful, promising and inspirational figure, perfectly suited to the Last Son of Krypton.
Superman seems to push the need for peace and connection among Earth’s people, a more pure and traditional take on companionship and solidarity.
Nicholas Hoult’s ever-present Lex Luthor
It appears we got the scoop on Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor, his calculated but volatile disposition in the film.
Lex sees Superman as a “thing” rather than a man.
Whether this plays into deeper talking points around Lex’s ignorance on the matter of the Kryptonians remains to be seen.
But then again, he’s Lex Luthor so he has to be playing a more intricate, tactical masterclass on the powers at be, but only time will tell.
Lex’s envy for Superman’s constant recognition would certainly play into the maniacal, egocentric personality of the character.
Hoult’s acting chops are poised to deliver tenfold on this front.
Counting down the days
DC’s Superman trailer set the standard for vibrant, but turbulent dynamics that we’ve come to expect from a Superman story.
With notable character relationships, thrilling and explosive sequences as well as more plot reveals relating to the future of the DCU and Superman’s role in that, it’s safe to say we are set for a thrilling flight through Metropolitan skies.
