Film news: Josh Brolin praises ‘stellar’ ‘Knives Out: Wake Up Dead Man’ co-star Daniel Craig
Daniel Craig has carved out an extraordinary career as one of Britain’s finest acting exports.
From Our Friends in the North to Casino Royale, Craig’s depth and breadth of work are vast.
It’s a fact that is recognised by Craig’s new Knives Out co-star, Josh Brolin, writes Film News Blitz’s Dan Lawrence.
Craig is ‘the best Bond’, says Brolin
For many actors, creatives, and indeed, audiences, their first introduction to Craig is through the prism of James Bond, 007.
Craig stepped into the role for 2006’s Casino Royale and quickly dashed any critics with a gritty, raw and human portrayal of the legendary secret agent.
His bow as an agent with a license to kill came in one of the franchise's best movies, and he starred in four more over the subsequent 15 years to cement his status as one of the best Bonds.
However, his work goes far beyond Bond, across the stage and screen, across multiple genres and complex characters.
It’s why in the same career he can portray the lead in Luca Guadagnino’s gay drama Queer with such care and play Benoit Blanc in Knives Out with effortless gusto.
This is precisely the sentiment that Brolin, who stars alongside Craig in the latest Knives Out sequel, Wake Up Dead Man, shared with Entertainment Tonight during a premiere for his other film, The Running Man.
“You know what, when I saw it, Daniel Craig is super good,” Brolin said.
“And when I saw him early on, when he was in Munich, I remember looking at him going, ‘God he’s a phenomenal actor,’ and I saw him on stage, and you forget once you get into the Bond stuff and you go, ‘he's still great.’
He’s the best Bond to me, him and Sean Connery. But then he shows up and he does like a character and you're like, oh, he's like a stellar actor."
Brolin went on to praise the rest of his Wake Up Dead Man castmates, which includes a gallery of talented performers, including Glenn Close, Josh O’Connor, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack, Thomas Haden Church and Jeffrey Wright.
Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery is out in select cinemas on November 26 and on Netflix on December 12.
The latest instalment in the murder mystery franchise is once again written and directed by Rian Johnson, with cinematography by Steve Yedlin, editing by Bob Ducsay, production design by Rick Heinrichs and musical score by Nathan Johnson.
