Film news: What you can expect to see on the big screen this winter
As the busy winter period is approaching, the cinema is a place where you can relax and escape from the world for a few hours.
We have seen many great releases so far this year, and there are still more to come as we approach the new year.
Here, Film News Blitz writer Luke Maddison takes you through what new films are hitting the big screen this winter.
‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’
He’s back! Freddy Fazbear returns this December in an anticipated sequel after the first instalment in 2023 became Blumhouse’s highest-grossing movie of all time.
The first movie topped Split for the production company's top earner, grossing over $297 million worldwide.
Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail and Matthew Lillard all return for a second showdown with the Animatronic Bear and his friends.
Founder and CEO of Blumhouse Productions, Jason Blum, spoke on the new sequel with great insight before shooting.
Via Den of Geek, Blum said: “We take more risks with the movie, we worked very, very hard on the script for this movie, and we didn’t have as many drafts of the script for Five Nights at Freddy's 2 as we did for one.”
“I’m very happy with where we are now, we’re about to start shooting the movie and I think fans are going to be very happy with it.”
If you are a fan of horror or feel like getting scared this winter, look no further than Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.

‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’
The third instalment of the huge Avatar franchise is set to hit screens less than a week before Christmas Day.
Director James Cameron will take you through yet another adventure as the conflict on Pandora escalates due to a new, aggressive Na’vi tribe.
With a running time of 3 hours and 12 minutes, this movie is set to be the biggest film of the year.
The franchise is well known for breaking box office records on the year of release, and there is no doubt it will happen again with the third movie.
Avatar (2009) still sits comfortably as the highest-grossing movie of all time with a lifetime gross of $2,923,710,708.
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) is third in the all-time list with a lifetime gross of over $2.3 billion.
If you like getting the best seats in the house at your local cinema, I would advise securing those tickets early for this winter release!

Jack Black and Paul Rudd team up for this horror-comedy film, which is an homage to the 90’s cult classic Anaconda.
After going through a midlife crisis, best friends Griff (Rudd) and Doug (Black) assemble a team to remake their favourite movie from their youth.
As they enter the jungle, they will come face to face with a gigantic anaconda which has a thirst for blood.
For Black and Rudd, the upcoming film will be their first-ever collaboration as a duo.
The cast also includes Daniela Melchior (Road House), Steve Zahn (Diary of a Wimpy Kid) and Thandiwe Newton (Wednesday).

‘Marty Supreme’
Oscar nominee Timothee Chalamet stars in the fictionalised biopic inspired by the life of famous table tennis player Marty Reisman.
The movie follows Marty Mauser (Chalamet), who is a ping-pong prodigy rising through the streets of New York to chase his dream of becoming a world champion.
It was revealed that Chalamet himself had secretly been playing ping-pong since 2018 to prepare for the role in the film and had been training while filming other projects.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, he said: “I had a table in London while I was making Wonka.
“On Dune 2, I had a table in Budapest, Jordan. I had a table in Abu Dhabi. I had a table at the Cannes Film Festival for The French Dispatch.
“I got myself an Airbnb in a town (around) Saint-Tropez after The French Dispatch, overlooking the water, and I was taking lessons there.”
Marty Supreme was written and directed by Josh Safdie, who is well known for co-directing Uncut Gems, which stars Adam Sandler.
