Netflix news: ‘Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery’ trailer drops with strong reviews

In November 2019, Knives Out hit cinemas and instantly became one of the most popular films of that year.

From Daniel Craig’s iconic American accent to the all-star cast accompanying him in both the first film and its sequel, Glass Onion, many have been excitedly awaiting the third instalment.

Film News Blitz’s Joe Matthews reports on the latest trailer for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.

What is the plot of ‘Wake Up Dead Man’?

Wake Up Dead Man sees the return of career detective Benoit Blanc (Craig), after a seemingly impossible murder shines a light on next to no viable suspects.

Josh O’Connor’s character, Reverend Jud Duplenticy, is seen by many as the primary suspect as Monsignor Jefferson Wicks, played by Josh Brolin, dies suddenly.

As with any whodunit, though, there is much more going on, and a much-praised performance from the former James Bond actor sees Blanc set out on a trail of discovery as he does all he can to solve the unsolvable.

“This goes way beyond normal police work,” Blanc utters in the new trailer, adding, “this is something, even I haven’t experienced.”

Another star-studded ‘Knives Out’ cast

2019’s Knives Out saw big names like Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis and Toni Collette included in a spellbinding cast that rocketed the film into the top 30-grossing movies of the year.

Three years later, Edward Norton, Dave Bautista, Janelle Monae and more joined the list of stars involved in the Craig-led detective thrillers.

This time, however, you could argue director Rian Johnson and his team have outdone themselves yet again.

The Wake Up Dead Man trailer shows glimpses of a sprawling, enviable ensemble.

Fresh off successes such as Rebuilding and Challengers, O’Connor takes on a huge role in this crime caper, with the likes of Glenn Close, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, and Andrew Scott also involved.

Craig, O’Connor and Brolin are also joined by Kerry Washington, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack, Thomas Haden Church and Jeffrey Wright.

Wake Up Dead Man has already premiered, and critics have raved about Johnson’s latest mystery with positive affirmations dropped in the latest trailer.

The Wrap calls Wake Up Dead Man, “The best Knives Out movie yet,” while five and four-star ratings have been scattered across the board.

As it stands, Wake Up Dead Man has a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with the critics’ consensus surmising it’s “a worthy mystery with its genuinely soulful fixation on faith and a scene-stealing O'Connor performance,” making the film “another Knives Out puzzle that comes together splendidly.”

Netflix’s latest Knives Out Mystery will be hitting cinemas on November 26, before being added to their streaming service on December 12 2025, meaning your new favourite detective thriller will be home just in time for Christmas.
