TV awards: Apple’s ‘Severance’ leads the 2025 Emmy nominations

The biggest night in television is almost here: the 2025 Emmy Awards.

Host Nate Bargatze will guide the biggest and brightest names in television on Sunday, September 14, at the Peacock Theater in L.A.

Film News Blitz co-founder Dan Lawrence breaks down who leads the way in the nominations.

Apple TV is eyeing a huge Emmy Awards haul

Ahead of the 2025 Emmy Awards, Apple TV+’s Severance is eying the greatest prize haul with a whopping 27 nominations.

The popular streaming platform has other notable shows chasing gongs, with Seth Rogen’s comedy, The Studio, earning an impressive 23 nominations.

That’s a new record for a comedy, taking over from Apple’s smash-hit, Ted Lasso, which is currently filming a fourth season.

Elsewhere, the beautiful dramedy Shrinking, also available on Apple, has earned Hollywood legend Harrison Ford his first-ever Emmy nomination.

HBO’s ‘The Penguin’ looking in strong form

Closely following Severance with a total of 24 nominations is HBO’s The Penguin, starring Colin Farrell as the eponymous crime boss in Gotham City.

HBO is also going strong with Mike White’s third season of The White Lotus, which has secured 23 nominations.

Wins already dished out at the Emmys

Ahead of the main event, the Creative Arts Emmys took place across two nights last weekend with several awards handed for craftspeople and below-the-line production participants.

The Studio racked up nine wins, with eight going to The Penguin and six going to Severance, serving as proof that the Emmy nomination front-runners are no joke, and will likely rack up several more prizes on Sunday night in L.A.

Coming up behind that trio in the Creative Arts celebration was Disney’s Star Wars spin-off Andor, which one four awards.
