TV News: ‘Ted Lasso’ season 4 officially in production

Back in the throes of the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the greatest shows of the last decade was brought to our screens thanks to a collaboration between AppleTV+ and Jason Sudeikis.

Ted Lasso became an instant fan favourite, and several of the main cast shot to fame in the coming months and years, with seasons two and three also receiving reams of positive feedback.

Fans of AFC Richmond around the world have been dying to see Ted Lasso and his crew return to their screens, and Film News Blitz’s Joe Matthews explains that their wish has finally been granted.

The first teaser

On July 21, 2025, Apple TV’s YouTube channel was adorned by a brand new video, titled ‘Ted Lasso - Season 4 Now In Production’.

It is only a short clip, featuring four of the show's biggest stars: Juno Temple as Keeley Jones, Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca Welton, Jeremy Swift as Leslie Higgins, and, of course, Jason Sudeikis as the titular Ted Lasso.

The clip, which was also spread across social media, shows the quartet sitting around a cafe table, eating wings, but something is off.

Where we are used to seeing the bleak British weather and the homely surroundings of the Prince’s Head in Richmond, we are instead met with sunlight ripping through the shades of a Kansas City diner.

That said, we do know that most of the season will see Ted return to the UK, but evidently, his home town of Kansas City will make some sort of an appearance.

What does this mean for Ted Lasso?

We can predict that this teaser is taken from an early scene in the new season, perhaps suggesting that the Richmond trio of Welton, Higgins and Jones are visiting Lasso in an attempt to lure him back to AFC Richmond to manage the women’s team?

What we do know is that the women’s team will be the new focus of the show, with Temple and Waddingham likely to further their standing as key cast members in the new season.

Joining them are a trio of new female faces: Faye Marsay (Andor), Abbie Hern (My Lady Jane), and Tanya Reynolds (Sex Education).

Moreover, we know that Bill Lawrence, Brett Goldstein, and Brendan Hunt are once again part of the executive producing team, with Goldstein a part of the writing team as well.

And for those wondering, Goldstein and Hunt will reprise their roles of Roy Kent and Coach Beard, respectively.

However, many of the male cast with roles in the AFC Richmond football team will not reprise their roles in the new season, including Toheeb Jimoh as Samuel Obisanya, Kola Bokinni as captain Isaac McAdoo, and Phil Dunster as Jamie Tartt.

Season four of Ted Lasso is sure to be a great addition to the AFC Richmond lore, and whilst there is no official release date as of yet, fans can expect to be compensated for their wait in 2026 or 2027.
