Film news: ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ trailer set to complete highest-selling trilogy of all time

The Avatar: Fire and Ash trailer has finally been released, setting the scene for the third installment, teasing what is set to be the highest-grossing trilogy of all time.

2022 saw James Cameron drop his second Avatar film, with Avatar: The Way of Water shooting to third in the all-time grossing films list, behind Avengers: Endgame and The Way of Water’s predecessor, Avatar.

Here to guide you through the latest trailer is Film News Blitz’s Joe Matthews.

Fire vs Water

A key theme of the new trailer is once again, conflict.

And it seems as though a significant portion of it in Fire and Ash comes through a potential civil war between the water tribe, the Metkayina, and the fire tribe, the Mangkwan.

There are several shots in the trailer that see the Mangkwan standing next to humans, pitted against the water-tribe alliance with our hero, Jake Sully.

One theory, fueled by a scene showing what looks to be Sully approaching the ash-laiden lands of the Mangkwan, suggests that perhaps both he and the humans attempted to form an alliance with the newly introduced group.

We also see Sully in distinct red face paint, contrasting the Metkayina’s blues and greens.

Fire goddesses’ powers

Similar to the way we were shown how the Metkayina adapted to their aquatic surroundings, becoming efficient hunters and survivors in their habitat, the new trailer gives us a sneak peek at how the new tribespeople may be able to interact with the elements.

In a brief shot, we see the hands and fingers of who we believe to be the Mangkwan leader gliding through a small flame, picking it up as they move.

Without being burned or hurt by the interaction, we are led to believe that these beings may have an elemental power, potentially linked to the striking red paint they cover themselves in.

Cameron’s effortless visuals

The entire Avatar series has been a sight to behold.

With absolutely stunning visuals and settings intertwined with the fabric of the stories present in each film, the viewing sensations that come with watching them are astounding.

Avatar: Fire and Ash is sure to add to our expectations, and several moments in the trailer confirm this, with shots of the Na’vi flying through the air with entire planets in the background, or the Pandora landscapes inspired by the sandstone pillars of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in China.

We are in for a real treat come December 2025, as Avatar: Fire and Ash looks set to once again shatter expectations and cement itself in sci-fi movie history.

Joe Matthews may be graduating in Sports Journalism, but he absolutely loves a good (or sometimes not so good) movie. From ‘are you not entertained?’ to ‘here’s Johnny!’, corny film references are his forté.
