Film news: John Krasinski set to return for ‘A Quiet Place Part III’

A Quiet Place first hit the big screen in 2018, with John Krasinski and Emily Blunt heading the cast of the Oscar-nominated horror drama.

A franchise was spawned, as actor/writer/director Krasinski created A Quiet Place Part II for a release in 2021, before handing the keys over to director Michael Sarnoski to craft 2024’s A Quiet Place: Day One.

Now, Krasinski is back in the director’s chair for A Quiet Place Part III, and Film News Blitz’s Joe Matthews is here to tell you what to expect.

What is ‘A Quiet Place’ about?

A Quiet Place follows the Abbott family living in a world infested by blind, noise-sensitive aliens, where every day could be their last.

Evelyn (Blunt) and Lee (Krasinski) Abbott are the parents in this growing family unit, who are trying to navigate the dangers of a post-apocalyptic world.

Part of their struggles is trying to find weaknesses with the creatures that hunt down anything and anyone that makes a sound.

The opening scene finds the Abbotts on a scavenger trip through town, picking up essentials, before their walk back home sees them encounter one of the deadly aliens.

Quickly, it sets the tone of what is to come, and the film has become iconic in the genre thanks to its use of silence to build tension and deliver scares.

An Oscar nomination in sound editing followed, and Krasinski was praised for his directing efforts by critics, who handed A Quiet Place a 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

It was also a box office smash, grossing over $330 million worldwide, turning a huge profit from a reported $17 million production budget.

The ‘A Quiet Place’ franchise

Naturally, the success of A Quiet Place spawned a sequel, and Krasinski’s A Quiet Place Part II was similarly successful, grossing $296 million worldwide and scoring 91% on Rotten Tomatoes.

This was followed by director Sarnoski’s 2024 prequel, A Quiet Place: Day One, starring Lupita Nyong'o, Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff and Djimon Hounsou.

Like its predecessors, A Quiet Place: Day One was also a success, grossing over $260 million worldwide and scoring 87% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Krasinski returns on set

After the success of the prequel, it has been announced that The U.S. Office and Jack Ryan star Krasinski will be returning for A Quiet Place Part III as writer, director and producer.

Alongside Krasinski being announced as a major part of the production, Paramount has set a release date of July 9, 2027.

Very little has been revealed about the plot or cast, with the initial announcements being made via Krasinski’s Instagram, where he posted a simple picture of the number three in Roman numerals, accompanied by the release date.

While the wait will see us on tenterhooks for nearly two years, many are more than excited to see how Krasinski’s A Quiet Place trilogy will develop, and if he can impress with this big-screen project.

Joe Matthews

Joe Matthews may be graduating in Sports Journalism, but he absolutely loves a good (or sometimes not so good) movie. From ‘are you not entertained?’ to ‘here’s Johnny!’, corny film references are his forté.
