Netflix news: Liam Hemsworth is on a rescue mission in ‘The Witcher’ Season 4 trailer

Liam Hemsworth’s debut as Geralt draws nearer, and Netflix has sought to build on the hype with a recently released trailer for The Witcher Season 4.

After images and teasers, this has given fans the biggest glimpse yet of Hemsworth in place of the beloved Henry Cavill in the lead role.

Film News Blitz’s Dan Lawrence unpicks the latest trailer.

Geralt is on a rescue mission to save Ciri

What’s clear from the new trailer is that Hemsworth’s Geralt, alongside bard Jaskier (played by the returning Joey Batey, is on a mission to cross the continent and save Freya Allen’s Ciri.

Ciri, who confesses in a scene of the new trailer that she’s "always lost, never found", is under pursuit from the villainous Vilgefortz (Mahesh Jadu).

Vilgefortz is amassing a legion of dark forces; meanwhile, Anya Chalotra’s Yennefer is rounding up forces of her own to prevent evil spreading across the continent.

The trailer is introduced in voice-over by Laurence Fishburne’s new character, Regis, and is littered throughout with many violent confrontations between Geralt and numerous adversaries.

Season 4 of The Witcher arrives on Netflix on October 30 and is the first half of a two-season conclusion to the popular show.

The jury is still out on Hemsworth’s take on the main character, however, with images, clips and trailers the only thing to go on.

Alas, the success of these final two seasons no doubt will hinge on his ability to carry the show.

Cavill, a vocal fan of The Witcher novels and games, was widely praised for his performances as Geralt, from physicality to voice and intention.

His departure from the series, allegedly due to creative conflicts with the show producers, was painful for many The Witcher fans to endure, with many feeling Geralt was among Cavill’s best work.
