Netflix Tudum 2025: Release date for ‘Stranger Things’ final season announced
On May 31, 2025 Netflix held their flagship live event, Netflix Tudum 2025.
The live event saw plenty of major announcements made to the Los Angeles crowd, with news surrounding several films, including the Happy Gilmore 2 trailer.
However, it was the news pertaining to one of Netflix’s biggest hits to date, Stranger Things, that caused shockwaves throughout the event - therefore, Film News Blitz’s Joe Matthews is here to offer all the updates regarding the hit Netflix sensation.
In case you forgot: your Stranger Things refresher
Created by the Duffer brothers - Matt and Ross, Stranger Things follows the story of a group of kids in 1980’s Hawkins, Indiana who uncover a supernatural world taking hold of the town around them.
One of the boys in the group, Will (Noah Schnapp), goes missing - The first season is then spent searching for and communicating with Will (who’s stuck on the ‘other side’) after he is presumed dead.
As the story progresses, the core group and the show’s side characters become intertwined with secret governmental facilities and underground government experiments with a dark political undercurrent.
Milly Bobby Brown’s Eleven, who is the main character and the heart of the youthful band of protagonists, anchors the emotional core of the story, along with Will.
Eleven has supernatural powers, and plays a significant role in combating and understanding the alternate dimension that exists in the show - the Upside Down.
Seasons one through four have seen some of the highest viewing numbers of any television show, and have acted as Netflix’s main attraction since it first arrived in July 2016.
A mysterious 25-page document…
Season five is set to be the final chapter in Stranger Things lore.
Although, Netflix have confirmed that there are still several plot points yet to be uncovered, and unanswered questions in the wake of the finale.
They confirmed that the Duffer brothers provided them with a 25-page document in season one that detailed the mythology with cryptic information about the alternate dimension, and whilst some of the lore involved has already been unveiled, more details are set to emerge.
Per the Netflix Tudum Stranger Things Geeked Week Panel, Ross Duffer said: “The last remaining questions that are answered in that document, we’ve punted a couple of those to have some big reveals in Season 5. And that’s really going to affect what Season 5 is about.”
It seems certain that any long-standing questions raised in the earlier seasons are nearing resolution in the final installment.
Release rundown
Slated for a three-part release - the first volume is due on November 26, 2025 at 17:00 PST, meaning its 01:00 the following day for GMT viewers in the United Kingdom.
Volume two will be released on Christmas Day 2025 at the same time, before the finale’s ultimate release on New Year’s Eve.
