Netflix news - ‘Wednesday’ season one recap, everything to know about the new season

Netflix’s Wednesday redefined what a teen supernatural series could be.

With its unique mix of gothic mystery, coming-of-age drama, and dry humour, it became a cultural phenomenon.

Now, as season two officially premieres on Netflix, fans are diving back into the dark world of Nevermore Academy — Film News Blitz’s Heidi Hardman-Welsh offers her preview.

This time, there are even more secrets to uncover, including new cast members like Billie Piper joining the eerie ensemble.

Season one recap: Death, monsters, and psychic visions *spoilers ahead*

In season one, we met Wednesday Addams—played by Jenna Ortega—as she was sent to Nevermore Academy after getting expelled from her previous school.

Nevermore, a boarding school for supernatural “outcasts,” was supposed to help Wednesday find a sense of belonging.

Instead, it became a dark playground for murder mysteries, prophetic visions, and strange friendships.

Wednesday quickly discovered that someone—or something—was behind a series of gruesome killings in the nearby town of Jericho.

Her investigation led her to uncover a creature called the Hyde, which turned out to be none other than Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan), a local barista and her romantic interest.

The Hyde was being secretly controlled by her teacher Marilyn Thornhill (Christina Ricci), who was revealed to be Laurel Gates, seeking revenge for her family’s fall from power.

In the final episode, Wednesday defeated Laurel and helped capture Tyler, but not before she received an ominous anonymous text threatening her safety.

The mystery, it seemed, was far from over.

Season two is here: A darker year at Nevermore

Three years later, season two of Wednesday has arrived, and it’s already making waves.

Picking up shortly after the events of season one, the new season plunges Wednesday deeper into the world of supernatural politics, hidden family legacies, and even darker enemies.

Themes of identity, betrayal, and power play a larger role this time around, and Nevermore Academy is no longer the relatively safe haven it once seemed.

New threats emerge both from within and outside the school walls, and the show explores Wednesday’s growing powers and inner turmoil in greater depth.

The show’s creators, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, have hinted at a “more mature” Wednesday this season, while retaining the deadpan wit and macabre charm that made her so iconic.

Returning cast

Jenna Ortega (Wednesday Addams) – Still sharp-tongued and emotionally distant, Wednesday now has to contend with the fallout from season one’s revelations—and new dangers that hit closer to home.

Emma Myers (Enid Sinclair) – Wednesday’s werewolf best friend and roommate, Enid continues to grow into her powers and plays a bigger role this season.

Hunter Doohan (Tyler Galpin) – After being exposed as the Hyde, Tyler’s return looms over the season with unpredictable consequences.

Percy Hynes White (Xavier Thorpe) – A psychic artist still struggling with his complicated feelings for Wednesday.

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán (Morticia and Gomez Addams) – Expect deeper insight into their past, and more involvement with Nevermore.

Fred Armisen (Uncle Fester) – Quirky and chaotic, Fester may offer more than just comic relief this time around.

New to the cast: Billie Piper

One of the most exciting additions to season two is Billie Piper, the British actress known for her roles in Doctor Who, Secret Diary of a Call Girl, and I Hate Suzie.

Piper joins the cast in a new role as Miss Capri, Nevermore’s new music teacher who attempts to nurture Wednesday’s music ability and guide Enid on her journey as a young werewolf.

Her casting brings a fresh dynamic to the show, with Piper’s ability to balance intensity, wit, and vulnerability making her a perfect fit for Wednesday’s moody universe.

The legacy continues

Wednesday revived the Addams Family for a new generation and helped redefine gothic storytelling for young audiences.

And with Billie Piper now joining the cast, the series feels even more energised.

The first four episodes of Wednesday season two are now streaming on Netflix.
